Ashby Fire began their 2025/26 NWL Winter League campaign in style with a confident 40–24 victory over Swadlincote Swifts.

With five new faces making their first appearances for Fire this season, the team quickly found their rhythm and showed their intent. The opening quarter was evenly matched as both sides tested each other, but Fire’s attacking combinations started to click, giving them a slender lead.

The defensive trio of Chloe Daniel, Ellie McLaren and Sophie Beavan were outstanding, shutting down Swadlincote’s shooters and restricting the Swifts to just two goals in the entire 15-minute quarter.
