Ashby Fire Off to a Winning Start

Sun 07 Sep 2025

Ashby Fire began their 2025/26 NWL Winter League campaign in style with a confident 40–24 victory over Swadlincote Swifts.

With five new faces making their first appearances for Fire this season, the team quickly found their rhythm and showed their intent. The opening quarter was evenly matched as both sides tested each other, but Fire’s attacking combinations started to click, giving them a slender lead.

The second quarter proved decisive. The defensive trio of Chloe Daniel, Ellie McLaren and Sophie Beavan were outstanding, shutting down Swadlincote’s shooters and restricting the Swifts to just two goals in the entire 15-minute quarter. At the other end, patient build-up and sharp shooting saw Fire extend their advantage to double figures at half time.

As the game wore on, Fire’s speed through the midcourt began to shine. The energy of newcomer Faye Assinder and the experience of Gabby Collard added real impact, while the calm presence of Chloe Daniel and Aimme Claybrooke kept play structured. With quick transitions and confident finishing, Ashby maintained control and ensured Swad could never close the gap.

By the final whistle, Fire had secured a convincing 16-goal win, showing both strength in defence and promise in attack. It was a performance that not only highlighted the team’s resilience but also the potential of their refreshed squad.
